ASU offers new online bachelor’s degree in communication

Arizona State University’s Hugh Downs School of Human Communication offers a new online degree program, Bachelor of Arts in Communication. This popular degree has been made available to campus students and is now available through ASU Online.

Communication is a very professional skill sought. The ability to communicate verbally and in writing with people inside and outside an organization is valued in all labor markets. Princeton Review ranks a communications degree as the second best university majors, based on job prospects and alumni salaries and popularity.

“Students who complete this degree will be better speakers and more organized writers,” said Sarah Tracy, professor and acting principal at Hugh Downs School. “They will also learn to be leaders, to be more valued in group communication situations and to acquire critical thinking skills that will help them analyze messages and contribute to various work environments. This degree also emphasizes interpersonal communicationn skills. gGiven the importance of relationships for our emotional and physical well-being, it is necessary to learn how to develop and nurture them.

The program is ideal for students interested in or currently working in a wide variety of industries, including (but not limited to) bBusiness management, sales, event planning, advertising, public relations, education, government, law, international relations, social services, human resources and non-profit management.

the bachelors degree is ideal for students who wish to focus more on the humanities side of communication and learn qualitative research methods such as interviewing and focus groups, both highly valued business and research skills. This comprehensive qualitative methods course will enable students to apply the advanced communication skills they have learned in courses like “Relational Communication”, “Persuasion and Social Influence”, “Crisis Communication” and “Civil Communication”.

the online Bachelor de Arts degree is the latest online offering from Hugh Downs School.

The faculty launched one of ASU’s first online degrees, the Bachelor de Sscience in vscommunication in 2011, currently ranked No. 6 in the nation by US News & World Report. the school has has also developed am online min or in vscommunication, a online Master of Arts in vscommunication, and the Communication Concentration for the Bachelor of Arts in Business offered by the WP Carey School of Business.

The Bachelor of Online Communication can be completed in eight semesters or three years.
