Boys season 3 will have bigger special effects

Boys Season 3 visual effects supervisor Stephan Fleet has said that the effects of the Amazon Prime series season three will be greater.

The visual effects supervisor for The boys season 3 says the VFX will be bigger than in previous seasons. Based on the comic book series created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The boys is entering its third season on Amazon Prime. The show was a huge success for the streamer, earning six 2021 Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, and drawing over 8 million viewers in the first 10 days of the first season alone.

The boys focuses on a group of underground vigilantes who battle overpowered beings who they believe are abusing their powers. These “boys” are led by Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher, who recruits a number of special individuals to join him, including Jack Quaid’s Hughie and Karen Fukuhara’s Kimiko to take on the Vought superhero team, led by Homelander by Antony Starr. The hyper-violent show will bring a number of new characters for the new season, including Jensen Ackles as the infamous Soldier Boy.

In an interview with The envelope, visual effects supervisor Stephan Fleet says season three will have “bigger“VFX, but will remain consistent with The boys‘character and story guidelines like “set by the creators of the series.“As with most series, the stakes are steadily increased as the series continues to grow, both in viewership and character / story. The boys has used great sets and visual effects before, including the use of a fake whale carcass in Season 2, which made for a very memorable streak. Read what Fleet had to say about their approach to the Bigger Effects Next Season below:

“We are able to take things to a slightly heightened level of reality and absurdity. But it still works and feels like part of our world. People are smart enough now to cut through the eye candy. They always want something that connects with them like soul level, don’t they? This is what real gold is.

boys, storm front

The boys Season 3 is expected to take on new twists and turns, including flashbacks, as the series delves deeper into the superhero world Vought created. With the inclusion of Soldier Boy, a parody of Captain America, it will certainly be necessary to bring out the effects, especially if they explore its supposed WWII roots, as has been teased. Regardless of how the most important effects are used, viewers can be assured of the same level of quality as in previous seasons. Showrunner Eric Kripke said no compromises were made in the production of the third season, although new Covid-19 restrictions made everything more difficult.

Viewers generally expect things to get better with every new season of a show, including visual effects, so it makes sense that The boys season 3 would target that. As the number of viewers and ratings increase, so does the budget and expectations. With The boys Being a flagship show for Amazon Prime, it will need to maintain consistency, while pushing the boundaries in order to keep people watching. The boys is the first non-Netflix show to land in Nielsen’s Top 10 ratings, so there’s a lot of pressure to keep her in the conversation. Winning a few Emmys certainly wouldn’t hurt visibility either, but most fans wait to hear when the third “bigger“the season is falling, which is more important than anything.
