Ellen Pompeo provided an update on the fate of his long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, and teased that the show might be ready to hang up the scrubs after 18 successful seasons.
“They’re not far off,” Pompeo, 51, said. Entertainment tonight discussing fan theories that the five-Emmy-winning show will end soon.
The actress, who stars as Doctor Meredith Gray, continued, “I mean, I’ve been trying to get away from it all for years. I tried. It’s not because I haven’t tried. . I have a strong relationship with the network and they have been very, very good to me and made me stay. “
Pompeo insisted that “creatively, as long as there’s something going on,” she will continue to star in the ABC medical drama. “Miraculously, we continue to find ways to have a reason to stay and if there is a reason, that warrants it,” she teased.
Season 17, she says, was the definition of creativity as it was filmed during a global pandemic. “We obviously had to bypass COVID so we had to be creative and think of ways to keep the show going while still being safe,” she said.
Asked about the possibility of a groundbreaking 19th season, the actress joked, “Oh please! Oh my God, can we pray together?”
However, Pompeo insisted his hands were tied when it came to confirming whether Grey‘s is about to enter its final season, recounting HEY, “I’m not really supposed to say anything about this … I don’t mean to disrespect people I’ve promised things to.”
Grey‘s The 18th season premieres September 30 on ABC.
