FG launches communication strategy on HIV self-testing and pre-exposure


The federal government on Tuesday launched a national communication strategy on HIV self-testing (HIV) and pre-exposure (PrEP).

These are tools approved in the national HIV combination prevention package for people at substantial risk of HIV infection.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Director General of the National AIDS Control Agency (NACA), Gambo Aliyu, said the national communication strategy on HIVST and PrEP was designed to facilitate effective communication HIVST and PrEP interventions available in the national response, by public health experts, health workers, community groups and agents to targeted audiences for HIV prevention in Nigeria.

He said: “He is developing the communication action plan that will promote the adoption of HIVST and PrEP interventions for the prevention of new infections and the reduction of the burden of HIV among individuals and groups particularly at high risk of contracting the disease. virus.

“It will address the challenges of low awareness, demand and utilization of HIVST and PrEP services.”

He noted that HIV self-testing allows people to know their HIV status from the comfort and privacy of their space.
