Doctors at Seattle Grace Hospital team up for reproductive justice. On May 19, Shonda Rhimes posted an Instagram video of the “Grey’s Anatomy” cast raising awareness about safer sex. Following the leak of the Supreme Court draft threatening to overturn Roe v. Wade, countless celebrities use their platforms to advocate for reproductive rights, so of course our favorite on-screen doctors had to be in on the important conversation. In partnership with Bedside, an online birth control support network for women aged 18 to 29, the familiar faces shared their advice on effective contraception. Online health clinics are essential in a time when reproductive rights can vary widely from state to state.
Together, Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, Kim Raver, Kelly McCreary, Caterina Scorsone, Kevin McKidd and Kate Burton amplified Bedsider’s mission and made it clear that knowing your rights can be just as important as fighting for them. “Knowledge is power. It’s time to be in the know. Women are powerful. You are powerful. Being powerful means having options. Know your options,” they say in the video.
The PSA also emphasizes the importance of monitoring pregnancy and acting quickly, in addition to proactively preventing it. “Take a pregnancy test every four to five weeks,” Pompeo says. “Every four to five weeks may seem like a lot, but time is running out with the law,” adds Wilson. “It’s a terrible time, and everyone is scared. But the options keep a woman powerful. You are powerful,” McKidd concludes.
