Strange things

Most of the time, these are just existing cards with new exclusive art. This time things are a little different, as the headliner of the superdrop is the crossover. Secret Lair x Stranger Things which includes mechanically original cards and a hint token thrown in for good measure. Wizards have already confirmed that these cards will get non-Stranger Things versions printed in set boosters next year, making it less of a problem than the previous Walking Dead Secret Lair, which has yet to be reprinted. in any capacity.

Costing £ 39.99 / $ 39.99 for a non-foil and £ 49.99 / $ 49.99 for foil, the Stranger Things Secret Lair includes nine cards:

  • Chief Jim Hopper

  • Dustin, genius of gadgets

  • Eleven, the mage

  • Lucas, the sniper

  • Max, the daredevil

  • Mike, the dungeon master

  • Mind Flayer, the shadow

  • Does the wise

  • A hint token

Monster Movies Marathon

The second collection is Monster Movies Marathon, with art by Martin Ansin that recreates the feel of old B-series horror movie posters. Although the cards chosen all play on the horror theme in one way or another, they still manage to include two Commander staples, Blasphemous Act and Beast Within.

Monster Movie Marathon costs £ 29.99 / $ 29.99, or £ 39.99 / $ 39.99 for the foil edition, and includes four maps:

  • Blasphemous act

  • Beast inside

  • Graffiti Cage

  • Dismember

Midnight Hunt Showcase

Showcase: Midnight Hunt follows the tradition of a secret lair extending the alternate art style introduced in a recent set by putting Innistrad’s original ten utility lands (colorless lands that have special abilities) in the black and white Eternal Night style first seen times in Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. Utility terrains are always useful, and this one has many different artists to make them more special: Alayna Danner, Nico Delort, Rio Krisma, Dan Mumford, Jessica Seamans, Robbie Trevino, NCWinters, DZO, Daria Khlebnikova and Kerby Rosanes.

Showcase: Midnight Hunt will retail for £ 29.99 / $ 29.99 for a paperless edition and £ 39.99 / $ 39.99 for foil, and includes ten cards:

  • lair of the moors

  • Archangel’s Vault

  • The Drowning of Nephalia

  • Sorry lighthouse

  • Stensia Bloodhall

  • Dark Blackwoods

  • Kessig Wolf Race

  • Killer fortress

  • Municipality of Gavony

  • Alchemist’s Refuge

Read the fine print

The next one is Read the fine print, a strange name for a series of cards themed around Magic’s main planeswalker, Liliana Vess. There is a story behind this fall, however: When Liliana Vess encountered the Planeswalker dragon Nicol Bolas, she was jealous of how he had managed to maintain some of her power after the repair, an event that severely weakened the Planeswalkers. of the multiverse. She then made a deal with him and four demons to reclaim her power and youth in return for her loyalty – this drop represents the contract she made and the demons she made it with, before her ultimate rebellion in War of the Spark.

This is one of two drops from this collection to come in a Foil Etched print, with the card frame having a different gilding pattern than normal. The Non-Aluminum costs £ 29.99 / $ 29.99, while the Film and Etched Film each cost £ 39.99 / $ 39.99, and it comes with five cards:

  • Demon Lord Belzenlok

  • Griselbrand

  • Kothophed, collector of souls

  • Razaketh, the Blood-Blood

  • Liliana’s contract

Exciting tales of the living dead

Exciting tales of the living dead has a similar vibe to the Monster Movie Marathon, except instead of movies, it instead features Fay Dalton’s recreations of luscious horror novel covers. Three cards that combine shlocky horror with pinup poses, this is another drop that focuses primarily on Liliana Vess. Unlike Read the Fine Print, however, this one actually includes a Liliana card, featuring Liliana, the majesty of Amonkhet’s death.

The classic Thrilling Tales of the Undead costs £ 29.99 / $ 29.99, while the foil costs £ 39.99 / $ 39.99 and comes with three cards:

  • Liliana, the majesty of death

  • Gravecrawler

  • Rise of the Dark Realms

Monster Anatomy 101

One of the strangest and most interesting drops in this collection is Monster Anatomy 101. Timba Smits’ art peels off the skin of some well-known magical creatures and gives a glimpse of their innards, much like Grey’s Anatomy. He’s got a good mix of creatures, from Goblin Lord Goblin Trashmaster to popular Commander Gishath, the Avatar of the Sun.

This drop skips the foil version, instead of having a regular foil at £ 29.99 / $ 29.99 and an engraved foil at £ 39.99 / $ 39.99. It includes five maps:

  • Fleet swallower

  • Goblin Trashmaster

  • Illharg, the Raze-Boar

  • Protean Hulk

  • Gishath, the Avatar of the Sun

The last drop is Mirrodinsanity. While the maps are somewhat disappointing, these are just five of Mirrodin’s artifact lands, DXTR’s pixel art on them is amazing. Lands that only use one color can seem underwhelming, but artifact lands are in high demand, especially in Pauper where they can support the Affinity deck archetype.

There are five cards, and are available in regular print for £ 29.99 / $ 29.99, or foil for £ 39.99 / $ 39.99:

  • Old lair

  • Synod headquarters

  • Vault of Whispers

  • Great Furnace

  • Tale Tree

Finally, there are a few bundled options for those who want it all. The most basic is the Non Foil Nightmare Bundle, which includes Stranger Things, Monster Movie Marathon, Read the Fine Print, Monster Anatomy 101, Thrilling Tales of the Undead, and Mirrodinsanity for £ 189.99 / $ 189.99. A sheet version (which includes both the sheet and engraved Read the fine print), Ferocious foil, is £ 279.99 / $ 279.99. The Boo-Tacular Bundle brings the two together for £ 449.99 / $ 449.99.

All of these secret lairs will be open for pre-order on Monday, October 18, and will end on November 15, before printing in January 2022.
