The robot has two degrees of freedom in each limb, hip and head, allowing its spine to move with the flexibility of a real mouse.

“SQuRo can achieve stable locomotion even after carrying a load equivalent to 91% of its own weight, demonstrating its superior payload capacity compared to small four-wheeled robots,” the researchers explained.

How big is the robot rat?

Currently, the robot is 19 cm long and weighs 220 grams; It runs on a rechargeable solar battery that lasts 30 minutes and can be controlled remotely via WiFi using a computer or phone.

“To our knowledge, SQuRo is the first small-scale quad robot of this size capable of operating in five operating modes, including standing, walking, crawling, turning and recovering from a fall,” said the professor and Associate Director.
